John Dormer Clark

John Dormer Clark was born on the 12th June 1895 at Enfield Cottage, Burnbank, Hamilton, Lanarkshire. His father, John Clark, became Chief Constable of Hamilton, and his mother was Mary Anne Clark (nee Dormer) and they had married on the 18th March 1886 in Dublin, Ireland.

John registered as a student at Andersons College Medical School in 1912. The College was absorbed into the University of Glasgow in 1947. John was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) on the 19th December 1916. 2nd Lieutenant John Dormer Clark was killed in action on the 27th May 1917, aged 21, near Arras, Somme, France. He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial in Fauborg d'Amiens Cemetery, Arras, France, and on the Hamilton War Memorial in the Hamilton Town Hall.
