Philip Duffy

Philip Duffy, was born on the 15th May 1896 at 141 West Princes Street, Glasgow, Lanarkshire. He was the son of Philip Duffy, a Spirit Merchant, and Catherine Duffy (nee McKean), who had married on the 17th April 1890 in Fintona, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland.
Philip was a student of the University from 1913 to 1915. During his time at the University he took classes in History, French, Geography and Latin. His matriculation slip for his first year, when he was 17 year old, shows that he resided in the Jordanhill area of Glasgow.
Philip served as a Private with the 2nd Bn. Gordon Highlanders and died in service during the Battle of Arras on the 7th May 1917, aged 20. He has no known grave and is remembered on the Arras Memorial, in the Faubourg-d'Amiens Cemetery in the Western part of the town.
