Roll of Honour
Private
James Lyall
James Lyall was born in the Springburn district of Glasgow in 1899, son of Alexander and Mary Lyall.
His address at time of death is shown in the City of Glasgow Roll of Honour, as 5 North Street, Springburn, which has long since vanished. He worked as an attendant at the University of Glasgow.
James was a private in the 2nd Battalion Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) although the Glasgow City Roll of Honour puts him in the Highland Light Infantry. Quite often regiments were made up to strength by absorbing other units who had lost men. He was killed on 25th March 1918 and is buried in the Ham British Cemetery, at Muile-Vilette , in the Somme district of France. He was 19 years old, and was survived by his wife Annabella.
