Kingsley William Guy Pinney
Kingsley William Guy Pinney was born on 30th December 1898 in Harlesden, London, and baptised on 5th March 1899 in Harlesden All Souls Church. He was the son of William and Emily Pinney, and the youngest of three.
They lived in Richmond and he attended St Catherine’s College in Richmond, before moving on to Glasgow Academy , when his father's business in chemical manufacture took him there.
Kingsley was a keen aero modeller, and member of the Scottish Aeronautical Society and in January 1915, while still at school, he had set a new Scottish endurance record with his model plane.
As a cadet in the school corps, it was natural that he should join the Glasgow University OTC , which he did on 1st September 1916.
He joined the Suffolk Regiment (No 12 Officer Cadet Battalion) as a cadet on 29th June 1917. His military career was very short, as he contracted peritonitis, was admitted to the Yorkhill War Hospital, where he died on 10th July 1917.
He is buried at the Glasgow Western Necropolis.
As well as the University Roll of Honour, he is named on the Glasgow Academy Roll of Honour.
