Reginald Russell Boyd

Reginald Russell Boyd was born on the 2nd July 1896 in Bishopton, Renfrewshire. He was one of seven children (two sisters) born to James Boyd, a Heating Engineer, and Emily Florence Boyd (nee Wylie), who had married on the 24th June 1881 in Belfast. The family resided in Bishopton, Renfrewshire before moving to Glasgow, latterly of 1 Bute Gardens and 1 Buckingham Street, Glasgow.
Reginald studied at Glasgow Academy before in 1913 he came to the University of Glasgow to study Medicine and took Chemistry and Zoology. Unfortunately his studies were cut short by the war.
2nd Lieutenant Reginald Russell Boyd joined the 9th Bn. Cameronians (Scottish Rifles) and went to France in February 1916. He was attached to the 7th Bn. Border Regiment when he was wounded in the Arras region of northern France. He died of his wounds in hospital on the 4th May 1917. His brother, Lieutenant Robert Mitchell Stewart Boyd, had been killed at Gallipoli on the 12th July 1915.
2nd Lieutenant Reginald Russell Boyd is commemorated on the Arras Memorial in the Faubourg-d'Amiens Cemetery, Arras, France.
