John Peterson

John Peterson joined the University in 1994 as Lecturer in the Department of Politics. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1995 and Jean Monnet Professor of European Politics in 1999. He left the University in January 2005 to take up the post of Professor of International Politics at the University of Edinburgh.

Peterson graduated BSc and MA from U.S. universities and was awarded a PhD from the London School of Economics. He has held posts teaching international, European and American politics at the Universities of York, Essex, Oxford and the University of California (Santa Barbara). He has also held visiting posts at the Universities of Vienna, Paris, California (Berkeley), University College Dublin, the Centre for European Policy Studies (Brussels) and the College of Europe (Bruges).
