Colin McInnes

Biography of Colin McInnes

Colin McInnes was appointed to the James Watt Chair of Mechanical Engineering in 2014. He was Professor of Space Systems Engineering from 1999 until 2004.

McInnes graduated BSc (Honours) in Physics from the University in 1988 and was awarded a PhD in Astrodynamics in 1991. He became a lecturer in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University in October 1991 and Reader in 1996. He was appointed to a personal professorship of Space Systems Engineering in 1999.

McInnes joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde in September 2004. His research interests centre on trajectory and mission analysis for solar sails, autonomous spacecraft control and space robotics. He is a fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, the Royal Society of Edinburgh and was elected a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2003.

Colin was made MBE in June 2014 for services to Space Research, Science and Technology.
