Biography of Robert Adamson
Robert Adamson (1852-1902) was Professor of Logic and Rhetoric at the University from 1895 until his death in 1902. He was a Senate's Assessor from 1898.
Born in Kingsbarns in Fife, Adamson graduated MA (1871) from the University of Edinburgh with first class honours in Mental Philosophy. He continued his studies at the University of Heidelberg and then returned to the University of Edinburgh as an assistant and as a member of staff of the Encyclopędia Britannica. He was appointed Professor of Logic and Political Economy at Owen's College, Manchester in 1876 and in 1883 was appointed to the Chair of Logic at the University of Aberdeen.
