Nigel Duncan Cameron Grant was Professor of Education at the University of Glasgow from 1978 to 1995.

Born in Glasgow on 8th June 1932, Grant graduated with second class MA Honours in English Language & Literature from the University in 1954, studied at Jordanhill College and gained a Diploma of Education from the University in 1955, an EdB in 1959 and graduated PhD in 1969 with the thesis Teacher training in the U.S.S.R. and Eastern Europe in the post-war period, 1945-1966 .

He completed his National Service and then taught English in Lightburn Secondary School and Crookston Castle Secondary Schools in Glasgow from 1957 to 1960. In 1960, he was appointed a lecturer in Education at Jordanhill College of Education, and he went to the University of Edinburgh in 1965 as a lecturer and subsequently Reader in Education Studies. He returned to Glasgow in 1978 to take up the post of Professor of Education at the University of Glasgow which he held until his retirement in 1995. He held the post of Professor Emeritus of Education and Professorial Research Fellow from 1995 until his death in 2003.
