Biography of Maxwell Murray
Maxwell Murray is Emeritus Professor of Veterinary Medicine and an Honorary Senior Research Fellow. He previously held the Chair of Veterinary Medicine.
Murray attended Shawlands Academy in Glasgow. He then studied at the University graduating BVMS in 1962. He received the McCall award as the most distinguished graduate of his year.
Following graduation, he joined the Glasgow team which was developing the modern Veterinary School at Nairobi, Kenya. Within two years he had returned to the University and a post in the Department of Veterinary Pathology. His main research interest was the pathogenesis of animal disease.
Following a sabbatical in Geneva, Murray moved in 1975 to a senior post in the newly established International Laboratory for Research in Animal Disease based in Nairobi.
In 1985, Murray returned to the University to take up the chair of Veterinary Medicine. He contributed greatly to the development of epidemiology in his department. He has received many awards for his research notably the Pfizer award for international excellence in animal disease research.
