Ralph William Pickford
Ralph William Pickford (1903-1986) was a lecturer the University's Psychology Department from 1930 and was the first Professor of Psychology, occupying the chair from 1955 until 1973. He was awarded a D Litt by the University in 1947 and the Pickford Travelling Fellowship is named for him.
Pickford was born in Christchurch in Dorset and studied at Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He was the first President of the Experimental Psychology Group and was Honorary Psychotherapist at the Notre Dame Child Guidance Clinic from 1942 to 1980 and at the Davidson Clinic from 1952 to 1980.
